Taking the Pressure Off

Write your awesome label here.
Many people think that pressure comes from the outside, from life’s demands. There’s pressure to make enough money, meet a deadline, make a decision, solve a problem, know what to do, or get somewhere faster than we seem to be getting there. So of course we assume the pressure will go away when the circumstances change.

But the circumstances and the pressure aren’t the same thing.

There can be a deadline you can or can’t meet. There can be a problem without an immediate answer. There can be something you want to change. The situation may be real. The pressure we add to it is ours.

And we can feel that pressure in our bodies. We tighten. We brace. We push. We hyper-focus. We try harder. All of this takes energy. Ironically, we pressure ourselves because we think it will help us handle what’s happening, when often it does the opposite. We have less access to our feelings, our clarity, our creativity, and possibilities we haven't yet seen. We become narrower at exactly the moment we need more space.

Pressure can be so familiar that we mistake it for the situation itself: Of course I feel this way. Look at what's happening. But what if the situation could remain exactly as it is and we could take some of the pressure off?

Taking the pressure off doesn't mean becoming passive or not caring about what happens. It means discovering that strain is not the same thing as strength. We can act, choose, create, set boundaries, solve problems, and move through uncertainty without constantly pushing ourselves.

When the pressure comes off, there is more room to breathe, feel, listen, and discover what might actually be possible.

In this workshop we will:

• Explore the difference between what is actually happening and the pressure we add to it.
• Notice how pressure shows up in the body and how much energy it takes to brace, push, control, anticipate, and get things right.
• Practice meeting problems, decisions, deadlines, and uncertainty with less strain and more space—including the freedom to say, “I don't know yet.”

The exploration of not only who we are, but what we are, has been the thread running through my entire life. From an early age, I perceived energy in ways I didn't yet understand. It took many years of exploration, study, and learning to work consciously with what I was experiencing before I began to understand what it was revealing and how it could become part of the work I now offer.

That exploration keeps opening me to new depths of consciousness, reality, and aliveness. Over time, it has shown me that we're inseparable from the beauty and mystery of creation itself.

My work reflects my lifelong exploration, drawing from psychology, nervous system regulation, trauma repair, metaphysics, spirituality, and energy healing.

For over five decades, through private sessions, groups, workshops, and writing, I've worked with people from around the world as they begin living from more of who and what they are.

A graduate of Wellesley College, holder of a Ph.D. in Psychology from Columbia Pacific University, and graduate of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, I’ve written The and... Trilogy, The Beautiful Language of the Heart (book and documentary), Loving Now, Love in Fur Coats, and French Lessons in Love.
