Surrendering To Change

Write your awesome label here.
We’re living in extraordinary times. Positive change is happening as we move forward into a new world, accompanied by turbulent resistance to that change. We can welcome change, surrender to it, and participate in a way that is enriching and expanding. Or, we can fight against it and be dragged kicking and screaming. Regardless, change is happening.

When we accept change, we enter its flow and change gracefully. Otherwise, we try to stop change and make up stories about how bad and awful it will be. Or we get very focused on our likes and dislikes. In fighting against change, we cause ourselves pain and tend to be forced to change through crisis, instead of it being an elegant process.

On a global scale, there are powerful collective movements happening toward greater equality and freedom. As deep injustice and abuse are being exposed and healed, many people are feeling more empowered and hopeful. At the same time, since change can feel threatening to our nervous system, many people are feeling rage, panic, grief and despair as old structures are falling apart. Some resistance to change is screaming loudly as extreme ideologies battle for supremacy.

Since change is happening whether or not we want it to, we can consciously align with it, noticing areas in life that flow with ease, and areas in which we feel stuck. In the stuck places, it helps to identify our demands for life to be different than it is. Noticing our endless litany of what we don’t have or who we think we’re supposed to be helps us to see how we endlessly try to fix what we perceive is wrong or broken, then judge, blame and shame ourselves, and others. All of this causes terrible pressure, anxiety and depression.

When we are willing to surrender our pre-existing ideas and identities and explore beyond our “truths,” we change. While leaning into the beauty and wonder of what is possible, we can also gently hold awareness of our resistance. Accepting both opens the door to experiencing and becoming more of who we are.

In this workshop we will:
  • identify areas in which we are fighting change
  • become aware of resistance
  • embrace both our resistance and our willingness
  • experience the peace and joy of surrendering into the flow of change

The workshop lasts 90 minutes.
